I started with home automation, making our home smarter. Smart switches, smart heating, lots of coloured LEDs! The heating turns off on warm days, and when we travel more than 30 mins from home. Lights turn on and off triggered by sunrise/set and when unconnected switches are operated.

We then had solar panels and batteries installed a few years ago in our quest to make the home work better for us.

We were very disappointed with the process. Whilst the company were very knowledgable about solar panels, the batteries seemed much more of an afterthought. Our system could have been much better specified.

As part of my efforts to maximise our returns I learnt what would have worked better and how with integrating technologies, much more could be achieved than utilising each manufacturer’s app separately.

I want to help other house owners get the full potential from their solar installations. Even if you don’t have house batteries now, these can be retrofitted to your system quite easily. 

If you are looking at replacing your car, consider an EV or PHEV (plug-in hybrid) The current overnight charging packages energy providers are offering when coupled with house batteries and solar panels can provide surprising savings (potentially even profits!).
